I have done translations for wintranslation for about 2-3 years. I have been a translator and interpreter for most of my life. Now that I am retired wintranslation is there to keep me going. I like doing work for winstranslation because of the challenges. It keeps my mind alert and brings back some of the words I had forgotten. I also like the payment part. They usually pay when I request payment earlier than scheduled. I don’t have to wait 4-6 weeks for payment. Translation and interpretation is my way of giving voice to those who cannot speak a different language. To me that is an honor. When we needed a large, complex document translated from English to French on a tight timeline, wintranslation was able to take on the job without delay, and get it done on time with good quality. They even identified some issues with the English version that we were able to fix before it was published — an added value! When another document came in at the last minute just before a big event, wintranslation had no trouble accommodating the request which I knew would be too much to ask of a smaller independent contractor. Communications were swift, professional and friendly. I had one less thing to worry about at a time when many components needed to come together quickly and had to meet high quality standards. Working as an intern at wintranslation was a great experience. The staff is very friendly and the flexible hours were ideal as a student. Through hiring Aboriginal translators, I gained research skills and knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. I definitely recommend it to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation.

As part of my degree, I worked as an intern at wintranslation for eleven weeks. My colleagues were very friendly and, as I live in France, working remotely was perfect. Indigenous QA is a task that requires dedication and patience and it was a great way to gain knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. The revision of child books was also a great experience. It pushed me to ask myself questions I wouldn't even have considered if the text was written for an adult. I recommend this company to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation and revision, or to test their ability to work remotely and independently.

We (The Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre) required short translations in a variety of dialects: Algonquin, Michif, Plains Cree, Woods Cree and Halq'eméylem. Wintranslation helped us find the best match from their available translators and overall had all of the dialects we needed.
