I valued the kindness and consideration given to us. While always being professional, we were treated like people, not clients. I have done translations for wintranslation for about 2-3 years. I have been a translator and interpreter for most of my life. Now that I am retired wintranslation is there to keep me going. I like doing work for winstranslation because of the challenges. It keeps my mind alert and brings back some of the words I had forgotten. I also like the payment part. They usually pay when I request payment earlier than scheduled. I don’t have to wait 4-6 weeks for payment. Translation and interpretation is my way of giving voice to those who cannot speak a different language. To me that is an honor. We (The Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre) required short translations in a variety of dialects: Algonquin, Michif, Plains Cree, Woods Cree and Halq’eméylem. When we needed a large, complex document translated from English to French on a tight timeline, wintranslation was able to take on the job without delay, and get it done on time with good quality. Working with Wintranslation has been very rewarding for me and our Anishinaabe people.  It has given me the opportunity to apply our language, which is not part of our everyday vocabulary, to the translations I have been doing.  It has also given me the opportunity to develop new translations for words that are new to our language. Our organization needed several materials translated into Atikamekw and Naskapi to promote rail safety in Indigenous communities. Wintranslation responded to our request and provided us with an accurate quote and estimated turnaround time — which was surprisingly quick. I had a great experience working with wintranslation. I called first to get an idea of what specific Indigenous dialect I would need translation into based on my program’s region and they were very helpful. I received a quick response back on my request for a quote and prompt and polite service throughout the entire interaction.
