10 Facts About Canadian Indigenous Languages

Canada is home to over 60 Aboriginal Languages, many of which are considered vulnerable and endangered according to UNESCO’s Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger. Since many of these languages are in danger of extinction, the use of them has become more and more important in order to help regain, cultivate and foster that part of Aboriginal and Canadian culture. These Aboriginal languages include those spoken by the various First Nations, Inuit and Métis groups throughout Canada.

wintranslation provides translation services in Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Plains Cree, Mi’kmaq, Mohawk, Swampy Cree, Oji-Cree, Dene and other Aboriginal languages for the government of Canada, City of Iqaluit and private sector clients such as Outcrop Communications, Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, and Environmental Resources Management.
