Huiping Iler is the founder and president of wintranslation.  She started the business in June 1998 as a home-based, one-woman operation and built it into a million dollar business. Having led the company through fourteen consecutive years of profitable operations, in 2008, Iler was one of a select group of businesspeople who received the highly regarded Ottawa’s “Forty Under 40” award.Iler is a Certified Localization Professional after completing an intensive Localization Certification Program offered by the Localization Institute. Felicia Bratu joined wintranslation in 2003 as a multilingual desktop publisher (DTP). In this role she was responsible for all foreign DTP projects, with particular focus on Chinese, Russian and Arabic typesetting. She managed desktop publishing projects for the UN and UNESCO through their communication agencies. Her articles about multilingual desktop publishing have been published online and offline; some of which have been translated into French and Chinese by different sources. Bratu is also responsible for improving the company’s translation and typesetting process by integrating computer aided translation tools with desktop publishing applications. In 2005, Bratu started working on increasing web traffic and site rankings for wintranslation. As a result, most of wintranslation’s web pages now have good rankings on Google and Yahoo and online revenue has more than doubled. Prior to joining wintranslation, Bratu served as a desktop publisher and editor for the Romanian branch of International Data Group, one of the world’s leading technology media, research and event companies.Bratu holds a BSc. in Industrial Robotics from the University of Craiova, Romania. She also attended numerous html, javascript and CSS courses at St. Clair College, Canada. In addition, she is a graduate of Search Engine Marketing Workshops’ advanced training program.

Sandra joined Wintranslation in 2002 as a project manager. She has managed specialized and diverse multilingual projects for clients such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Government of Canada – Public Works and Government Services Canada, Canada School of Public Service, Canadian Tourism Commission, Ministry of Agriculture, the Government of Ontario, the City of Ottawa, Caterpillar, Magna, Patients Beyond Borders, MTV, Armani Exchange, among many others.  She has also managed consecutive and simultaneous interpreting assignments for clients such as the RCMP, the Canadian Consulate, and Immigration Canada.Bologna is active in staying on-top of the industry’s standards and new technology.  She attends the American Translator’s Association’s yearly conferences, leveraging employee talent conferences, as well as search engine marketing workshops.Bologna is fluent in English, French and Italian and holds a B.A. (Hons) in French Language & Literature from the University of Windsor, Canada. She also attended Université Laval, Quebec, Canada for studies in Quebec culture and language. Bologna is a member of the American Translator’s Association and received Trados training in 2006.

Sylvie Shen joined wintranslation as a project manager in 2011 where she has managed multilingual projects for clients such as Scotiabank, SkyWave Mobile Communications, and others. Shen is also responsible for testing and implementing a new project management system and a new translation tool for wintranslation. Prior to working for wintranslation, Shen gained extensive experience managing and supporting document and software localization projects in the Information Technology and Computer Software Industries. She has previously worked as a Globalization Engineering Coordinator for IBM Canada Ltd., a Localization Documentation Specialist for Cognos, an IBM Company, and a Documentation Graphic Specialist for Cognos Inc. She also possesses full professional proficiency in English, native proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin, and a working knowledge of Japanese. Shen holds a BSc. in Computer Science with a minor in Business from Brock University, Canada. She has also co-published research articles in Computer Games Workshop 2007 and the International Computer Game Association Journal (2007).

Phil Walker joined wintranslation as a project manager in 2012 and he now manages multilingual projects for clients such as Farm Management Canada, SkyWave Mobile Communications, CREIT and many organizations within the Government of Canada. Walker brings over a decade of experience in various customer service fields at companies such as Convergys International Corporation and was a customer service team manager for many of those years at a private Ottawa based internet technology firm. wintranslation is using Walker’s strengths and knowledge to further grow our ability to handle multiple projects of any size and to recruit talented individuals to assist with our translation projects. Walker is also now leading our junior team members and our project management intern program.


Birgit Samuel,

Prior to joining wintranslation, Samuel worked at Intel Corporation where she held multiple positions that ranged from German linguist to managing large localization projects and freelancer teams. She lived and worked in several countries/continents including Germany, France, Israel, Africa, and USA where she gained a great deal of translation, computer, and management experience. Her jobs include working as a technical translator at the engineering department of the US Army Berlin, and also under contract for UN and government offices in Africa providing linguistic services and computer training in one-on-one, group, or classroom sessions. She speaks German, English, French, and Hebrew. Over the years Samuel attended multiple translation, management, and productivity workshops, and was among the first to localize software into German. She has worked in the translation and localization industry for over 20 years and was trained in the latest technology and tools of the localization industry. Samuel graduated from the Friedrich-List commercial college Berlin, and holds a BA in Social Sciences from FHSE.
