Swahili Language

Swahili is the mother toungue of the Swahili people and is an official language in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The language is also known by the name Kiswahili. It is estimated that there are between 120 and 150 million people who speak the language, most of which are living in Africa.

Swahili has some of its vocabulary derived from other languages including Arabic, Portuguese, German and French. This happened as the region had different controlling empires though different points in time.
