What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is a translation that has been verified and approved as being accurate, complete and in concordance with the source document.

What kinds of documents require certification?

Birth, marriage, divorce and academic certificates, official transcripts (such as school, work, medical related reports, etc), adoption papers; immigration documents, patents, and many others.

Who can certify a translation?

Usually, organizations that require certifications have different policies. So, before contacting us, please check with the institute for which you are doing the translation about its requirements.

A certified translator (with an accreditation from a translation association)
A translation agency can complete the translation and provide hard copies with their stamp
A translation can also be notarised before a Public Notary. However, as most of our translators are freelancers and work from different places, for some languages we might not be able to provide notarized translations.

Please be advised that some of the translators would like to see the original documents before starting the translation.

A certified translation consists of the following parts:

A copy of the original document
Translation of the document
A statement signed by the translator and his/her stamp attesting
that the translation is accurate

Turnaround: usually 2-3 business days plus mailing time (from 2-5 days in Canada by regular mail and from 5-10 days in USA)

Payment terms:

For personal translations, all clients are required to pay before starting the job. For walk-in clients cash is recommended.

Examples of requirements:

Canada – Ontario College of Teachers: translation requirements
The translator must include an original signed letter that says the translation is accurate and the translator belongs to one of the categories listed.
The letter has to include the translator's identification number or seal (or both), name, address and telephone number.
The translator has to be certified by the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario.

USA Immigration:
All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations into English. Translations must be certified by a qualified independent translator and sworn to before a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths.

You are not required to have the translations individually notarized. Provided you have the document translated by a certified translator and include a statement signed by the translator that states the translation is accurate, and the translator is competent to translate.

Embassy of Mexico in Canada:
If the documents are translated in Canada, the translation must be performed by a certified translator. As translators are not considered public authorities, the translation must be accompanied by an affidavit of the certified translator signed before a notary public, lawyer or commissioner of oaths (the affidavit must state that the translator is recognized by a provincial body responsible for certifying translators and interpreters, and the translation into Spanish is the most accurate rendition of the text of this English or French document).

Australia - Australian Civil Aircraft Register
Documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translation. The translation must be compiled by a translator registered with the Australian National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) and must include the NAATI translator's stamp.
