Seneca Language

Seneca is an aboriginal language spoken by the Seneca people who live mainly in the state of New York and on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. As of 2007, there are only an estimated 100 fluent speakers of the language remaining. Since that time an active language revitalization program has begun to teach Seneca children the language.

The Seneca language does share similarities with the other Iroquois languages – Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga and Mohawk, however there are differences which make each language distinct.
