Pashto Language

Pashto (also called Pushto, Afghani or Pathani) is one of the official languages of Afghanistan with the other being the Dari language. There are an estimated 50 million Pashto speakers living around the world today.

There are a few dialects which are commonly divided into either the Northern or Southern main dialects. Pashto does have it’s own unique alphabet which is a modified version of the Farsi (Persian) alphabet.

Many loanwords and borrowings have come to Pashto from languages such as Arabic, Farsi, French and German.
