- January - Microsoft launched Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 to Consumers Worldwide in 19 languages.
- March - Quark announced the release of a new edition of QuarkXPress 7 for Canadian and Latin American customers. QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition includes English and French manuals, spell check and hyphenation functionality. QuarkXPress 7 Latin American Edition includes the English, Spanish and Portuguese user interfaces.
- April – Dark brown leather sofa sold with racist label: Nigger-Brown. It seems that the blame lay with a Beijing-based software company whose translation engine wasn't updated in 10 years.

- July - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book of Harry Potter novels written by British author J. K. Rowling, was released globally in 93 countries
- November – Machine translation responsible for an international incident. A group of Israeli journalists used a translation engine to send an email message to the Dutch Consulate in Tel Aviv. They wanted to discuss an upcoming visit to The Netherlands for a seminar on Dutch politics, but they ended up asking the minister several nonsensical questions about his mother.

- Steps for Multilingual Internet - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the International Telecommunication Union, and UNESCO met in November to discuss the full implementation of Internationalized Domain Names. Right now, domain names are limited to characters from the Roman scripts, but are seen as an important element for a multilingual Internet: http://www.icann.org
- December - GoogleTalk now supports translation via chat bots. The bots act as translators for the conversation that occurs once you add them as friends. There are 24 languages currently supported. “As some have guessed, this is a 20% project, and while machine translation isn't perfect, we hope these bots can be helpful in bridging language barriers.” Jonas Lindberg, Google Software Engineer.
