Gitxsan (alternatively spelled Gitksan or Gitxsanimaax) is an Aboriginal language spoken by the Gitxsan First Nations tribe of northwestern British Columbia. It is part of the Tsimshianic language family and closely related to the Nisga’a language, though Nisga’a and Gitxsan are each their own distinct languages. Gitxsan is considered an endangered language with approximately 350 native speakers in a population of over 7,600.
